Taipei, Jan. 28 (CNA) Taiwan Sports Lottery reached a new milestone in 2024, with total sales topping NT$64 billion (US$1.94 billion), the highest annual total in its nearly two-decade history.

In a news statement issued on Tuesday, the Sports Administration announced that the record NT$64.3 billion in sales last year contributed over NT$7 billion to Taiwan's sports development fund.

Taiwan Sports Lottery is authorized by the government, with the Ministry of Education serving as its competent authority under the Sports Lottery Act.

Following an amendment in November 2016, all revenue generated by the lottery is directed to the country's sports development fund.

Meanwhile, the lottery company is offering additional single-game and in-play betting during the Lunar New Year holiday, covering Europe's top five soccer leagues as well as the National Basketball Association (NBA), National Hockey League (NHL), and National Football League (NFL) in the United States.

According to the Sports Administration, the sports lottery recorded NT$77 billion in sales over five years and eight months during its first term, and NT$407.8 billion in the subsequent decade during its second term.

The amount is expected to exceed NT$502 billion by the end of its ongoing third term in 2033, the administration said.
