The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Taiwan’s leading applied research organization, received eight 2024 R&D 100 Awards at the award ceremony in Palm Springs on November 21. The awards recognized ITRI’s groundbreaking technologies across diverse industries and applications. This is the 17th consecutive year that ITRI has received the honor and continues the Institute’s eight-award streak from the previous year.

2024 Taichung Shopping Festival is different from the series of activities over the past five years. Mayor Lu Shiow-Yen invited three foreign representatives to participate in shooting promotional videos to attract tourists from around the world. It included the invitation of Chief Representative Dr. Kazuyuki Katayama of the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, Taipei Office.

The National Defense Medical Center (NDMC) hosted a grand celebration today (22nd of November 2024) to commemorate its 123rd Anniversary. The event featured a series of activities, including academic symposiums, the Military Medicine Forum, alumni gatherings, family reunions, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Alumni, faculty, and students were invited to join the festivities to celebrate the institution’s rich history and achievements.

More than 250 representatives from over 20 countries, including central banks, financial institutes, enterprises and international organizations, gathered in Taipei for the 40th Asian Bankers Association (ABA) General Meeting and Conference. The event, titled “Asian Banks: Transitioning Toward a Sustainable Future,” was held from November 18 to 19 at the Grand Hyatt Taipei. Attending the opening ceremony were Taiwan’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Kuo Jyh-Huei, and Financial Supervisory Commission Chairman, Peng Jin-lung, who delivered speeches and offered insights into sustainable development in the financial and technology sectors of the Asia-Pacific region.

Taichung has led in over half of the 8 key indicators for company and business registrations for 14 consecutive quarters, showcasing its stable economic growth. “Since Q4 2019, Taichung has published quarterly national rankings of economic indicators from the central government. Among these, 8 key indicators from the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA)—including growth in registered companies, businesses, capital amounts, and growth rates—reflect Taichung’s consistent advancement. Starting with three top rankings in 2019, Taichung has maintained at least four top positions each quarter since Q2 2021. In Q4 2023, the city reached a record seven top rankings, demonstrating its growth potential," said the Economic Development Bureau of the Taichung City Government.

Taichung has become a key hub for foreign investment, with benefits gradually materializing as international corporations continue to set up operations. Notable companies include technology giants Micron, TSMC, and AUO; commercial entities such as MITSUI FUDOSAN, COSTCO, and IHG; and offshore wind power companies like ORSTED and CIP (Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners), which is investing in the Feng Miao Offshore Wind Farm. These investments are sparking growth across related supply chains and fostering robust industrial development. According to the recently released third-quarter data for 2024 from the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), Taichung ranks first in six key indicators, including the number of businesses and capital growth, compared to the same period last year, leading all six major cities.

Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation (hereafter “Yang Ming”) is pleased to announce that it has been honored with the 2024 Sustainability Partner Award by Union Pacific Railroad (hereinafter “UP Railroad”). The award was presented at UP Railroad’s headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska, recognizing Yang Ming’s dedication to sustainable business practices. On behalf of Yang Ming, Mr. Wen-Jin Lee, Senior Executive Vice President of Operations at Yang Ming (America) Corp., and Mr. Brian Tzeng, Vice President of Logistics, accepted the award. This award underscores Yang Ming’s efforts and the recognition it has received from its business partners for its commitment to sustainability.

This year, Singapore and Taichung City Government have maintained close contact, engaging in cultural and urban development. Trade Representative Mr. Yip Wei Kiat visited Mayor Lu Shiow-Yen in March, and they thoroughly discussed the Singapore Great Sale and Taichung Shopping Festival. Soon after, Mayor Lu visited Singapore to exchange experiences with city development and received a warm welcome from Singapore government. Mayor Lu extended a special invitation to Mr. Yip to participate in the filming of Taichung Shopping Festival video, and showcased Singaporean cuisine.

In March of this year, then-President Tsai Ing-wen awarded the honor of National Chair Professor to Professor Anne Wu of National Chengchi University (NCCU). Professor Wu’s innovative Activity Value Management (AVM) system has garnered significant international recognition, earning four awards from the American Accounting Association (AAA) and making her the first Asian scholar to achieve such an honor. The AVM system analyzes operational data to identify issues and to optimize management processes, thus helping businesses reduce hidden costs and significantly enhance operational efficiency.

Taiwan will host the 37th conference of the Asian Credit Supplementation Institution Confederation (ACSIC) in 2025, the Small and Medium Enterprise Credit Guarantee Fund of Taiwan (TSMEG) has announced.
