National Defense Medical Center Celebrates 123rd Anniversary: Bringing Together Global Experts to Build a Platform for Innovation and Collaboration in Military Medicine
The National Defense Medical Center (NDMC) hosted a grand celebration today (22nd of November 2024) to commemorate its 123rd Anniversary. The event featured a series of activities, including academic symposiums, the Military Medicine Forum, alumni gatherings, family reunions, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Alumni, faculty, and students were invited to join the festivities to celebrate the institution’s rich history and achievements.
This year’s celebration was more extensive than ever, combining the 51st National Armed Forces Medical Symposium and the 5th Taipei International Military Medicine Forum (TIMMF). The event attracted numerous leading scholars from Europe, the United States, and the Asia-Pacific region. By incorporating a variety of medical specialties and fostering interdisciplinary exchanges through keynote lectures and collaborative discussions, the event was transformed into a comprehensive military medical symposium—“NDMC Medical Week 2024”—offering participants a global perspective.
The inaugural NDMC Medical Week showcased a diverse array of academic topics, including precision medicine, neuroscience, infection control, pandemic science, and cancer immunology, highlighting significant research achievements. It also focused on emerging trends in AI technology and its integration with medicine, enhancing military medical personnel’s understanding of and capabilities in modern medicine and military medical practices. This integration aimed to combine academic knowledge with practical applications, inspire medical innovation, and pave the way for a new era in medical development.
In his address, the NDMC President expressed heartfelt gratitude to past and present faculty and leaders, praising their efforts in building a century-long legacy of excellence and a culture of striving for distinction. He emphasized the need to continue deepening and integrating all aspects of military medicine to cultivate the military medical talent essential for the nation and society. The President reaffirmed the institution’s mission to protect the nation’s health and honor the alma mater’s legacy by setting new benchmarks for excellence.
