Taipei, June 5 (CNA) Temperatures across Taiwan are expected to rise on Thursday as a weather front that had lingered over the country moves south into the Bashi Channel, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said.
CWA forecaster Lin Ting-yi (林定宜) told CNA that moisture levels would remain high on Thursday, bringing showers and thundershowers across Taiwan.
The agency issued a heavy rain advisory for offshore Penghu County early Thursday, but later lifted the alert.
Lin added that areas south of Hsinchu, as well as mountainous regions in Hualien and Taitung counties, have a high chance of localized showers. However, he added that the rain will subside throughout the day.
Meanwhile, he said temperatures are expected to rise on Thursday as the weather front moves away.
Lin forecast temperatures of 27 to 29 degrees Celsius in northern and eastern Taiwan, with central and southern regions reaching 31 to 32 degrees.
He said a tropical disturbance could develop between the waters east of the Philippines and the South China Sea next week.
However, Lin said its strength and exact location remain uncertain, so further monitoring is needed before an accurate report can be issued.
