20-Meter Giant Moomin Makes a Splash at Taichung International Convention and Exhibition Center A Collaboration Among Taichung City Government, Finland Trade Center, and Local Industries
The Taichung International Convention and Exhibition Center (TICEC) today unveiled a world-first attraction: a 20-meter-tall giant Moomin inflatable, now on display in the venue’s outdoor plaza. The iconic Finnish character has quickly become a focal point for visitors to the adjacent Central Park and a viral highlight across social media platforms.
Director General Chang Feng-yuan of the Economic Development Bureau, representing Mayor Lu Shiow-yen, joined Jere Tala, Deputy Representative of Finland Trade Center, along with leaders from various industrial associations, to officially unveil the installation.
The giant Moomin is strategically positioned facing the exhibition center’s glass curtain wall. Visitors on the fourth floor can take “peeking” selfies with Moomin, creating the illusion that the character is curiously looking into the building. Director General Chang noted that the installation brings a sense of warmth and healing to the venue, transforming a business-oriented facility into a welcoming, family-friendly landmark.
Deputy Representative Jere Tala expressed his delight at seeing Finland’s most representative cultural IP showcased in Taichung. Created by author Tove Jansson, the Moomins are beloved worldwide for conveying themes of warmth, inclusiveness, and care. He invited the public to experience Moomin’s therapeutic charm while participating in Taichung’s diverse cultural and commercial events.
The giant Moomin installation is part of a cross-border cultural collaboration linked to the 2026 Central Taiwan Lantern Festival, themed “Happy Honey Horse, Taichung MOOMIN ON!” By integrating international cultural elements into key business infrastructure, the city aims to extend the stay of convention visitors and stimulate local tourism, retail, and dining consumption. Representatives from the hand tools, machine tools, woodworking, aerospace, and robotics industries attended the unveiling, highlighting the close connection between Taichung’s strong industrial base and its city branding efforts.
