Taipei, April 2 (CNA) Taiwan will remain cold in the morning and evening on Wednesday, while Taipei and other northern areas will be chilly all day, according to the Central Weather Agency (CWA).

The weather agency predicted lows between 12 and 14 degrees Celsius in northern and northeastern areas, with other areas experiencing temperatures between 15 to 17 degrees, while some places in Miaoli County and New Taipei could drop to 10 degrees or lower.

Daytime highs will reach 18 to 20 degrees in northern, northeastern and eastern areas, and 21 to 25 degrees elsewhere, the CWA reported.

The outlying island counties of Penghu and Kinmen, as well as the Matsu Islands (Lienchiang County), will see temperatures ranging from 10 to 20 degrees.

The CWA added that brief showers are expected in some areas in eastern and western parts of Taiwan, as well as in Pingtung County's Hengchun Peninsula in the south.

Taiwan also faces windy conditions on Wednesday. Independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) predicted on Facebook that Taiwan's coastal areas may experience sustained winds of level 6 on the Beaufort scale, with gusts of level 8 and above, due to strong northeasterly winds.

Looking ahead, Wu warned that a cloud system from South China will move eastward on Thursday and Friday, gradually increasing cloud coverage across Taiwan.

Those two days, the first two of the four-day Tomb Sweeping Festival, will feature stable weather of mostly sunny and cloudy skies.

Temperatures will rise across Taiwan during the holiday, with northern areas reaching highs of 26 to 27 degrees Celsius and southern areas exceeding 30 degrees, Wu said.
