Taipei, June 22 (CNA) Taiwan won bronze in the senior men's team foil at the 2025 Asian Fencing Championships in Bali, Indonesia, which ended Sunday.
After dispatching South Korea in the quarterfinals, Taiwan found itself behind 18-35 with two rounds to go against China in the semifinals.
Despite 19-year-old Hsu Sheng-hung's (許勝閎) 12-point rally in the penultimate round, Taiwan ultimately lost the last-four matchup 40-45.
Coach Chen Po-huai (陳柏槐) told CNA that team leader Chen Yi-tung (陳奕通) had not eaten much for two days before Sunday's contest due to him feeling unwell, which was why Hsu was called in at the 6th round during the semifinals -- a decision that "worked out well" in retrospect.
Chen praised the team for its attitude and collective effort, emphasizing that "everyone fought until the very end."
