Taipei, Oct. 20 (CNA) Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei and Taoyuan cities will issue a decision at 8 p.m. on whether to cancel work and school Tuesday due to forecasted heavy rain, Keelung Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang (謝國樑) said Monday.

Hsieh told local media that absent some pressing reason, the four Taipei-area cities would announce the decision jointly at 8 p.m.

According to the Central Weather Administration, Keelung City is expected to receive between 300 millimeters and 490 mm of rain in the period from 2 p.m. Monday through 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Keelung City government regulations stipulate that school and work can be cancelled if rain totals in mountainous or low-elevation areas are forecast to exceed 350 mm in a 24-hour period.
