Since 2012, with support from the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), Shih Hsin University and Formosa Television (FTV) have collaborated to build “Science Discovery” — a science popularization platform that has aired continuously on FTV News and FTV Taiwan for over a decade. By extending its reach across YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram through high-quality science education videos, the partnership has grown into Taiwan’s most widely supported science education initiative.

Produced by FTV News in collaboration with the NSTC, Science Discovery is dedicated to collecting and broadcasting premium Taiwanese scientific content — drawing a steadily growing viewership year by year. The production team has invested significant effort into creating animations that break down complex scientific principles into accessible, engaging visuals. This commitment to quality has earned widespread recognition, with the program frequently receiving nominations and wins at the Golden Bell Awards.

Shih Hsin University President Chen Ching-ho (陳清河) highlighted that this "powerhouse" collaboration has brought scientists and media professionals together in a shared mission. Over the past decade, the partnership has gone beyond quality television broadcasting to embrace a hybrid approach combining online and offline resources to embed science communication within schools, communities, radio, and a wide range of industries.

President Chen noted that since the establishment of the Taiwan Science Communication Project Office at Shih Hsin University in 2012, Science Discovery — supported by the Society of Science Communication — has made abstract scientific theories accessible by grounding them in everyday scenarios. From meteorology and pandemics to drones and insects, the program brings science to life in ways that resonate with daily experience, steadily realizing the vision of "science for everyone, everywhere, every day." Looking ahead, President Chen expressed hope that the program will continue to diversify, serve niche audiences, and expand its reach internationally, carrying Taiwan's science communication expertise onto the global stage.

After more than a decade of growth, the Science Discovery team is upgrading the program for the digital multimedia era. For online promotion, the team will maintain its scheduled television broadcasts while launching a dedicated OTT channel — offering 24-hour streaming of high-quality NSTC science videos and maximizing the synergy between new media and traditional television. For offline marketing, the team plans to deepen engagement through campus events that foster student interaction and cultivate future talent, alongside international forums and science film festivals designed to bridge the gap between academia and industry.

Staying true to its founding mission, the Science Discovery team remains committed to advancing national science initiatives and pursuing excellence, ushering in a new era in which quality science is accessible for all.
