Taipei, Sept. 7 (CNA) A weather system moving northward across Taiwan will bring rain and a chance of thundershowers to much of the country on Sunday, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
As the system moves north, southern Taiwan and the Hualien-Taitung region in the east will see occasional rain showers throughout the day, with localized heavy rain or storms, the CWA said.
Other parts of the country can expect mostly cloudy skies with afternoon thundershowers, which are forecast be heaviest in areas north of Taichung, the CWA said.
High temperatures Sunday will range from 31 to 34 degrees Celsius nationwide, the weather agency said.
Tropical Storm Tapah, which formed late Saturday in the South China Sea west of the Philippines, is not expected to have any direct effect on Taiwan, CWA forecaster Lee Ming-hsiang (李名翔) said.
Meanwhile, independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) forecast cloudier and slightly cooler weather, with a chance of afternoon storms, in the first half of next week.
From Thursday through Saturday, sunny, hot and drier weather will prevail as a high-pressure system moves over Taiwan, Wu said, citing European forecasting models.
