Taipei, July 28 (CNA) An account set up on July 21 to solicit private donations for Typhoon Danas disaster relief has received over NT$42.7 million (US$1.45 million) as of Sunday, the Taiwan Foundation for Disaster Relief said Monday.

A total of 8,951 transfers were made, 13 of which were over NT$1 million, including a combined donation of NT$16 million from state-funded businesses, as well as NT$6 million from E. Sun Bank and its affiliates, according to the foundation.

The foundation said its fundraising goal is set at NT$500 million, which will be used to support disaster relief, emergency medical aid, shelter and resettlement, and post-disaster recovery efforts.

The funds can be applied for by private or public sectors for the aforementioned purposes, it said.

After the fundraising ends on Aug. 20, there will be a public announcement of the donors as well as disclosure of the fund disbursements, the foundation added.
