
Taipei, July 28 (CNA) An account set up on July 21 to solicit private donations for Typhoon Danas disaster relief has received over NT$42.7 million (US$1.45 million) as of Sunday, the Taiwan Foundation for Disaster Relief said Monday.
A total of 8,951 transfers were made, 13 of which were over NT$1 million, including a combined donation of NT$16 million from state-funded businesses, as well as NT$6 million from E. Sun Bank and its affiliates, according to the foundation.
The foundation said its fundraising goal is set at NT$500 million, which will be used to support disaster relief, emergency medical aid, shelter and resettlement, and post-disaster recovery efforts.
The funds can be applied for by private or public sectors for the aforementioned purposes, it said.
After the fundraising ends on Aug. 20, there will be a public announcement of the donors as well as disclosure of the fund disbursements, the foundation added.
Typhoon Danas made landfall in Chiayi County's Budai Township on July 6. It heavily impacted central and southern Taiwan, causing power outages, water supply disruptions, property damage and flooding.
