Taipei, July 7 (CNA) Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA) has lifted a land warning for Tropical Storm Danas as it moved further away from Taiwan.

Speaking with reporters, CWA forecaster Wu Wan-hua (伍婉華) said the land warning, imposed on Saturday, was removed at 11 a.m. as the storm weakened and its radius moved away from Taiwan.

As of 1 a.m. Monday, the eye of Danas was located 130 kilometers north of Taipei City, northern Taiwan, the CWA said.

The storm was moving in a northeasterly direction at a speed of 7-12 kilometers per hour (kph) with sustained winds of 90 kph and gusts of up to 119 kph, according to CWA data.

Danas made landfall in Chiayi County's Budai Township as a typhoon late Sunday night but was downgraded to a tropical storm early Monday after losing momentum.

However, Wu said a sea warning was unlikely to be lifted before Monday evening as Danas's impact was still being felt in waters north of Taiwan.

Danas is still forecast to bring localized heavy and extremely heavy rain in southern Taiwan, including Tainan and Kaohsiung cities and Pingtung County on Monday.

There is a chance of localized heavy rain in Taichung and areas north of the city, as well as other parts of central Taiwan and Taitung County in the southeast.

Continued strong winds are also expected in New Taipei, Pingtung, Taitung, Penghu and the Matsu Islands due to the storm, while the CWA has warned of high waves in northern coastal areas and Matsu.

As of 11 a.m., Mudan Township in Pingtung reported 633 millimeters of rain, the highest volume of precipitation, ahead of Daren Township in Taitung (578.5 mm) and Daliao Township in Kaohsiung (386 mm)

On Tuesday, localized heavy rain and intermittent thundershowers are forecast for southern Taiwan, with possible afternoon thundershowers elsewhere in Taiwan.

The wet weather is set to continue across Taiwan going into the weekend of July 12-13, according to the CWA.
