Taipei, May 24 (CNA) The pursuit of equality continues even after the legalization of same-sex marriage in Taiwan, which celebrates its sixth anniversary on Saturday, according to Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴).

In a Facebook post, Hsiao expressed hope that in the future, people will continue to embrace tolerance and friendship toward one another, and unite Taiwan with love, as the country marks the sixth anniversary of the legalization of same-sex marriage on May 24.

Meanwhile, the vice president said she was glad to see that over the past few years, more and more people in the LGBTQ+ community have been able to live openly as their true selves and choose whom they love.

"Democracy, freedom, and human rights are values that Taiwan takes pride in," Hsiao said, noting that when a society is filled with love, the nation becomes more resilient in its continued pursuit of equality.

Separately on Saturday, Premier Cho Jun-tai (卓榮泰) said the legalization of same-sex marriage is a major human rights achievement that Taiwan can be proud of.

The government will continue to promote a diverse society that is more loving, inclusive and equal, Cho said, expressing hope that everyone will work together to achieve this goal.
