Taipei, May 1 (CNA) Sporadic scattered showers are expected in northern and eastern Taiwan on Thursday, as a nearby weather front brings increased humidity, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
Northern Taiwan will see scattered showers throughout the day, while eastern Taiwan and mountainous areas in central and southern Taiwan may experience occasional scattered showers in the afternoon, the CWA said Thursday.
Apart from the expected rain in those areas, cloudy skies will cover most of Taiwan, the CWA said.
Temperatures will rise during the day to highs of 27-31 degrees Celsius across the country, except in the south, where the mercury will soar to a high of 33 degrees, the CWA forecast. Nighttime lows will fall to around 21-23 degrees, it added.
Meanwhile, Wu Der-rong (吳德榮), an adjunct associate professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at National Central University, said the weather will be cloudy to sunny during the weekend, with a chance of afternoon showers or thundershowers.
He also said that the first plum rain front may arrive next Tuesday, bringing showers or thundershowers to Taiwan.
