Taipei, April 2 (CNA) The Chiayi District Prosecutors Office has scheduled an autopsy next week to determine the cause of death of a newborn baby found dead in front of a deserted residence in Budai Township, Chiayi County on Wednesday, the office said in a statement.
The Chiayi County Police Department's Budai Precinct said it received a report about a baby in a box left in front of a disused residence at 8:12 a.m.
First responders who arrived at the scene found the infant with no vital signs, and the police cordoned off the area to collect evidence, while notifying prosecutors to investigate the cause of death, the police precinct said in a statement.
According to the prosecutors office, the infant was 47 centimeters in length and likely born after being carried to near full term, with its umbilical cord still attached.
The autopsy is scheduled for April 9, prosecutors said.
