
Taipei, Jan. 26 (CNA) A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck southern Taiwan's Tainan at 7:38 a.m. Sunday, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
The epicenter of the temblor was located in Tainan’s Nanxi District, about 41.3 kilometers east northeast of Tainan City Hall, at a depth of 8.1 km, according to the administration.
There were no immediate reports of damage resulting from the quake.
The earthquake's intensity, which gauges the actual effect of a temblor, was highest in Tainan, Kaohsiung, Chiayi cities and Chiayi, Yunlin and Changhua counties, where it measured 4 on Taiwan's 7-tier intensity scale.
The quake also measured an intensity of 3 in Pingtung, Nantou, Hualien, Taitung and Miaoli counties, as well as Taichung, the CWA said.
