Taoyuan, Oct. 28 (CNA) Presidential Adviser Lin Hsin-i (林信義), Taiwan's envoy to the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Gyeongju, South Korea, departed Tuesday morning to attend the two-day event which begins on Friday.

Before boarding his flight at Taoyuan International Airport, Lin said Taiwan will highlight its strengths in semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), smart healthcare, and small and medium-sized enterprises.

He expressed hope that the meeting will help attract more investment, strengthen international cooperation, and raise Taiwan's profile in APEC.

Lin said that APEC is a platform for multilateral economic and trade dialogue, where member economies can engage on an "equal footing," and called Taiwan's participation a "valuable opportunity."

At a press conference on Oct. 21, President Lai said he had asked Lin to convey three key messages about Taiwan's commitments at the meeting, including boosting economic resilience, sharing industrial experience, and developing people-centered AI to support APEC's shared vision.

Lai also pointed out that South Korea, this year's APEC host, has placed a strong focus on AI and demographic change, which align closely with Taiwan's long-term policies.

The Presidential Office announced Lin's appointment as Taiwan's APEC envoy on Oct. 8, citing his deep experience with APEC operations and related policy discussions as making him the ideal choice.

Lin, who also chairs the government-backed venture capital firm Taiwania Capital, previously represented Taiwan at APEC meetings in 2005 and 2024.
