Taipei, June 2 (CNA) Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) on Monday congratulated right-wing opposition candidate Karol Nawrocki on winning Poland's presidential election, saying Taiwan looks forward to deepening cooperation with the central European country.
"Sincere congratulations to @NawrockiKn on your election as president," Lai wrote on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
"Taiwan values its ties with Poland, based firmly in mutual support & a shared commitment to freedom & democracy. We look forward to new milestones as we deepen cooperation to uphold global peace & prosperity," he wrote.
In a result described by Reuters as a victory for European conservatives inspired by U.S. President Donald Trump, Nawrocki won 50.89 percent of the vote, defeating Rafał Trzaskowski, who received 49.11 percent, according to Polish National Electoral Commission figures.
