Taipei, May 1 (CNA) Taiwan's government will continue to roll out various measures to enhance the protection of workers, President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) said on International Workers' Day Thursday.
In a social media post, the president thanked workers in Taiwan for their contributions to Taiwanese society through their hard work in various professional fields.
He said the government would continue working to "elevate the rights and interests of workers" through measures such as modifying labor laws, reducing taxation on ordinary employees, and encouraging private enterprises to raise salaries.
At the same time, the government will support businesses amid global economic turbulence, because "the more stable businesses are, the more secure workers' jobs will be," Lai said.
He said the Cabinet had proposed a draft bill that would allow it to allocate NT$410 billion (US$12.7 billion) funding to cushion the impact of U.S. tariffs on Taiwanese industries, stabilize the job market and strengthen Taiwan's digital and security infrastructure.
The NT$410 billion funding authorisation bill was finalized by the Cabinet on April 24 and awaits legislative approval.
