Taipei, April 19 (CNA) A Hong Kong Express Airways flight carrying 129 people to Taichung in central Taiwan made an emergency return to Hong Kong shortly after take-off Thursday, after it was reportedly struck by lightning.
The plane, a Boeing 737 carrier, took off from Hong Kong International Airport at 12:56 p.m. but the pilot contacted the airport and requested permission to return shortly after take-off, saying it seemed that the aircraft had been struck by lightning.
Hong Kong had been having showers and thundershowers since noon, according to the Hong Kong Observatory.
The plane landed in Hong Kong at 1:59 p.m. with all of its passengers safe and unhurt.
It took off again at 4:08 p.m. for Taichung and arrived at 5:42 p.m.
