TSMC Q3 net profit hits record high

Taipei, Oct. 17 (CNA) Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), the world's largest contract chip maker, said Thursday that its net profit for the third quarter hit a new high on the back of solid demand for consumer electronics devices.

The company reported NT$51.95 billion (US$1.77 billion) in net profit for the July-September period, up 0.3 percent from a quarter earlier, with an earnings per share of NT$2.00.

In the third quarter, TSMC's consolidated sales rose to NT$162.58 billion, a 4.3 percent increase from the second quarter and the highest quarterly amount in the company's history.
