Taipei, May 8 (CNA) Around 6,000 job openings will be offered by 102 employers from the electronics, tourism, banking, manufacturing and service sectors at a job fair in Taipei Saturday, the organizer said Monday.
The job fair, which is being organized by Taipei's Department of Labor, will be held at the EXPO Dome in Taipei EXPO Park on May 12, according to Chen Yeh-shin, commissioner of the department.
Among the employers registered to attend are Compal Electronics Inc., the world's second-largest contract maker of notebooks, AU Optronics Corp., one of Taiwan's biggest LCD panel makers, and Farglory Group, a local property developer.
President Starbucks Coffee Corp., a joint venture of Taiwan's Uni-President Group and U.S. coffee chain Starbucks Corp., and restaurant operator Wowprime Corp, which owns 11 restaurant brands in Taiwan and China, will also be looking for new people.
The department usually holds job fairs ahead of the college graduation season every year as part of the government's effort to make it easier for new graduates to find jobs and keep the unemployment rate down, Chen said.
Besides the fair this Saturday, the department is planning another large-scale job fair focusing on the high-tech sector on September 15, Chen noted.
Taiwan's unemployment rate in March was 4.17 percent, with 470,000 people out of work, according to the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics.
