Taipei, May 4 (CNA) A Chinese tourist died on Friday night after being hit by a small truck earlier in the day while on a cycling tour on Kinmen Island.
According to the Kinmen County Police Bureau, the accident occurred when a small truck driven by a local resident surnamed Lee was heading west from the airport on Friday afternoon.
Lee was driving in the slow lane when he tried to pass a car straddling the fast and slow lanes to its right and hit the unsuspecting victim, Wu Shihe, who was walking his bike on the side of the road, police said.
Wu fell unconscious and was rushed to Kinmen Hospital, but was pronounced dead just after 7 p.m., about three and a half hours after the accident.
Wu arrived in Kinmen on a ferry Thursday with 15 other members of a cycling club in Quanzhou, China to ride their bikes around the island. They were scheduled to return home Saturday afternoon.
The police notified Wu's family in China of the accident and interrogated Lee and the driver of car he passed, surnamed Hsiao, to determine who was responsible for Wu's death.
