Recycling truck crashes into crowd in Taoyuan; 7 injured, 1 critical

Taoyuan, Jan. 23 (CNA) A recycling truck in Taoyuan crashed into a crowd of people disposing of trash Friday, sending seven individuals to hospital, one of whom was reportedly without vital signs, police said.

Police said the driver apparently became unwell and fainted losing control of the recycling truck, which surged forward and crashed when it was stopped on Chunghsin Road in Taoyuan's Guishan District at around 6 p.m.

The injured individuals were throwing garbage into the back of a garbage truck which was positioned in front of the recycling truck.

One person became trapped underneath the truck and was reported to have no vital signs at the scene. They were rushed to hospital, according to the city's Fire Department.

The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation by the police.
