'Taiwan Travelogue' wins 2026 International Booker Prize

A Taiwanese novel has made literary history in London. Taiwan Travelogue, written by Yang Shuang-zi and translated into English by Lin King, has won the 2026 International Booker Prize — becoming the first work from Taiwan ever to receive the prestigious award. Set in 1938 during the Japanese colonial period in Taiwan, the novel tells a cross-cultural love story between a Japanese writer and a Taiwanese translator. Through their relationship, it explores questions of identity, empire and culture.
