Taipei, July 8 (CNA) The Central Weather Administration (CWA) has issued heavy rain advisories for Tuesday across central and southern Taiwan due to the influence of a low depression system.
The advisory was issued at 9:40 a.m. for Taichung, Chiayi and Tainan cities, as well as the counties of Nantou, Yunlin and Pingtung.
The CWB defines heavy rain as accumulated rainfall of 80 millimeters or more within a 24-hour period or 40 mm or more in an hour.
Meanwhile, an extremely heavy rain advisory, which refers to accumulated rainfall of more than 200 millimeters within a day, or more than 100 millimeters within a 3-hour period, was issued for the counties of Changhua and Chiayi as well as Kaohsiung, the CWA said.
Although cloudy to sunny skies are forecast across much of northern Taiwan during the day, the weather agency said parts of Greater Taipei and its mountainous areas could see brief showers in the afternoon.
Temperature-wise, daytime highs of 32-35 degrees Celsius are forecast nationwide on Tuesday, although Greater Taipei and Hualien and Taitung counties in the east as well as the outlying Kinmen County could see temperatures above 36 degrees, the CWA said.
Independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) said warm weather with cloudy to sunny skies is expected to prevail across Taiwan from Wednesday to Saturday.
From Sunday to Monday, brief showers or thunderstorms are forecast in Taiwan's mountainous areas in the afternoon, while nearby low-lying areas could also see some rain, Wu said.
