Taipei, May 22 (CNA) The zero-emission vessel, Porrima P111, was launched Thursday in Kaohsiung, marking a milestone for Taiwan's green marine technology, according to city Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁).
The vessel, developed by Porrima Inc. using Taiwanese supply chains, will be deployed in the Republic of Palau, one of Taiwan's remaining diplomatic allies, for high-end diving and eco-tourism services.
Chen said the project highlights Taiwan's strength in zero-emission innovation and represents a new trend in tourism combining technology and environmentalism.
The launch event in the southern Taiwanese city's Singda Harbor was attended by Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍), Palauan President Surangel Whipps Jr., and Porrima founder Stan Shih (施振榮).
Chen said the collaboration with Kha Shing Ent. Co. showcases synergy between Taiwan's yacht-building and IT industries and will contribute to Kaohsiung's "future globally leading position in net-zero vessels."
"Porrima is not only the pride of Kaohsiung, but also symbolizes Taiwan and Palau working together towards net-zero aspirations," Chen said.
Porrima is participating in Taiwan's efforts to share its green technology expertise with allied countries by supporting work on zero-emission vessels and high-end sustainable tourism in Palau, a small Pacific island nation with a population of around 20,000.
According to a fact sheet on Porrima's website, the vessel -- which has a catamaran hull made from carbon fiber -- is 32 meters in length and can travel at a speed of 10 knots.
The vessel is powered by hydrogen, solar and wind power, according to the company's website.
