Taipei, Jan. 29 (CNA) Temperatures across Miaoli County, northern Taiwan, are forecast to drop below 6 degrees Celsius between late Wednesday and early Thursday, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).

As of Wednesday noon, the CWA issued an "orange" cold surge advisory for Miaoli, warning of "very cold" weather due to the effects of radiative cooling.

The CWA reminded Miaoli residents to stay warm and be aware of safety precautions when using heaters.

According to the CWA, temperatures below 6 degrees were recorded in locations in Miaoli, New Taipei and Keelung City early Wednesday morning.

The lowest temperature recorded on Wednesday was 2.3 degrees, which was recorded at 3 a.m. at Miaoli's Dahe Weather Station.

Meanwhile, the CWA also issued a "yellow" cold surge advisory for the cities of Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, Tainan, Keelung and Hsinchu as well as Yilan, Hsinchu, Changhua, Nantou, Yunlin, Chiayi and Kinmen counties, warning of overnight temperatures below 10 degrees between Wednesday and Thursday.

Cloudy and sunny weather is forecast for most of Taiwan during this time, with sporadic rain in parts of Hualien and Taitung, the CWA said.

Rain could spread to the eastern and southeastern parts of Taiwan, the Hengchun Peninsula and mountainous areas in the central and southern parts of the island on Friday, the CWA added.

The arrival of a weather front later on Friday will then bring sporadic rain to the rest of Taiwan, the CWA said.
