Taipei, Jan. 1 (CNA) President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) greeted members of the public and handed out commemorative items and snacks during the Office of the President's New Year's Day public opening.

The Office of the President opened its doors to the public at 9 a.m. on Thursday, with crowds lining up to enter the landmark building, which is located in Taipei's Zhongzheng District.

Areas of the presidential compound opened to the public included the Main Entrance, the third-floor Reception Hall, the South Courtyard and the North Courtyard.

A special exhibition set up by Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) titled "Resilient Taiwan" also opened on the same day.

Lai toured the exhibition accompanied by Minister of Economic Affairs Kung Ming-hsin (龔明鑫).

The president also visited a baseball merchandise market on the theme of "Team Taiwan," where he signed items at booths selling candied fruit and tofu.
