Former first lady Wu Shu-jen hospitalized after collapsing at Tainan home

Tainan, Aug. 15 (CNA) Wu Shu-jen (吳淑珍), wife of former President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁), was hospitalized Friday after collapsing at her residence in Tainan, during which she reportedly stopped breathing, according to the southern city's fire bureau.
The Tainan City Government Fire Bureau said it received a report Friday afternoon that the 73-year-old Wu had collapsed, was not breathing and had no pulse.
A call handler provided first aid instructions over the phone while dispatching paramedics and an ambulance to the scene, the bureau said.
Wu was resuscitated en route to Tainan Sin-Lau Hospital and conscious on arrival, according to the bureau.
She was later admitted to a ward for observation, hospital staff told CNA, adding that no further details would be released out of respect for the family's privacy.
Wu was Taiwan's first lady from 2000 to 2008, when Chen served as the country's first president from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
She has been in a wheelchair since a 1985 accident at a post-election event for her husband that left her paralyzed from the waist down.
