Taipei, Feb. 4 (CNA) Taiwan's national academy is presenting its marine-related research at the six-day Taipei International Book Exhibition, which began on Tuesday.
Academia Sinica's special exhibition -- titled "Picking up shells on the beach: Exploring the boundless ocean of knowledge" -- will feature display areas on the themes of "Seeing the ocean through words" and "Seeing the ocean through life sciences," according to an Academia Sinica news release.
The first area will highlight content from 11 featured books while the second will present ocean-themed audiovisuals, including dolphin calls and underwater volcanic bubbling, it said.
"The ocean is one of Taiwan's important assets, nurturing rich natural resources and culture," Academia Sinica's President James C. Liao (廖俊智) said at the special exhibition's opening ceremony on Tuesday.
The results of the state-run research institution's work across the humanities and sciences will be "presented creatively" in the hope of "stimulating the public's curiosity and sense of adventure for discovering knowledge," Liao added.
Fourteen lectures will be held at Academia Sinica's display area over the international book exhibition's six-day run, including one on marine energy and the Kuroshio current by Wu Chau-ron (吳朝榮), a research fellow at the academy's Research Center for Environmental Changes.
Another lecture, by Lin Yu-ju (林玉茹), a research fellow at Academia Sinica's Institute of Taiwan History, will explore the characteristics of Taiwan's port cities from a global historical perspective.
Academia Sinica will also present two newly published Chinese-language books at the exhibition titled "Human Intelligence in the Age of AI" and "Community Imaginations, Imagined Communities: Care Services and Strategic Recommendations."
Nearly 4,000 books published by the national academy will also be on sale at the Taipei International Book Exhibition, which is being held at the Taipei World Trade Center in Xinyi District from Feb. 4 to Feb. 9.
Sponsored by Taiwan's Ministry of Culture and organized by the Taipei Book Fair Foundation, the exhibition is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday through Thursday, and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, according to the exhibition's website.
