Taipei, Dec. 29 (CNA) New Year's Eve events will take place around Taiwan on Tuesday, with pop concerts and fireworks displays planned across Taiwan to usher in 2025.
New Taipei
The first major fireworks display on the evening of New Year's Eve will take place in New Taipei at the Tamsui River estuary at 8:25 p.m. against the backdrop of the under-construction Danjiang Bridge.
The fireworks display of 13 minutes and 14 seconds can be viewed from both Tamsui and Bali districts on either side of the river, according to the city government.
Taipei
The annual countdown party in front of Taipei City Hall will begin at 9 p.m. on New Year's Eve and feature several Golden Melody Award winners, including Penny Tai (戴佩妮), Faith Yang (楊乃文), and YELLOW (黃宣).
Taiwanese Olympian Sun Chen (孫振), who competed in the inaugural breaking event at the Paris Summer Games, will be joined by City4 Crew and perform before the Taipei 101 New Year fireworks show to mark the start of the new year.
According to Taipei 101, its five-minute fireworks show will highlight the themes of Team Taiwan and Champions to commemorate the country's victory at the World Baseball Softball Confederation's Premier12 in November.
Keelung
The northern port city's New Year's Eve event will continue its ongoing celebration of the centennial of Keelung's designation as a city, with an 11-minute fireworks show to be staged at the start of 2025.
Taoyuan
The host city of the 2025 Taiwan Lantern Festival close to Taoyuan High Speed Rail Station will hold its New Year's Eve concert at the same location from 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
The concert in Taoyuan features 13 pop singers and groups, including Ding Dang (丁噹), Van Fan (范逸臣), Kimberley Chen (陳芳語), boyband Saturday from the talent show Atom Boyz, South Korean performer Kang Daniel and boy group DayChild, according to the organizers.
Attendees can also visit a night market of 60 food vendors and enjoy an 180-second fireworks show at midnight.
Hsinchu
For the second year in a row, Hsinchu City and Hsinchu County will hold a joint New Year's Eve party, this year in front of Hsinchu County Hall in Zhubei City, with a live concert, a market fair with more than 100 food vendors and a five-minute fireworks show, the co-organizers said.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. and shuttle buses will take people from Hsinchu Railway Station and Hsinchu High Speed Rail Station to the event site, starting 5 p.m.
Miaoli
Although Miaoli County Government does not plan to hold a New Year's Eve event, Shine Moon Resort in Yuanli Township will, for the third year in a row, host a free fair and performances from 3 p.m. and a three-minute fireworks show at 10 p.m. on Tuesday.
Taichung
Once again, the city in central Taiwan will have two major New Year's Eve events, one organized by the city government, and the other at Lihpao Land theme park and resort.
The city government countdown party will take place at Taichung Central Park and begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
The line-up for the seven-hour party features performers and several local bands, including singer Tanya Chua (蔡健雅), hip-pop group Nine One One, rock band Accusefive, boy band Ozone, and metal band Flesh Juicer which comes from Taichung.
Music duo GX, which is booked for the city government party will also appear at the Lihpao Land event scheduled between 8:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.
The city government event at Taichung Central Park will usher in 2025 with a three-minute fireworks show, while Lihpao Land plans a five-minute fireworks display accompanied by a light show centered on the theme park's Ferris wheel.
Nantou
Three New Year's Eve parties will take place in Nantou, including two near different piers around Sun Moon Lake, and one at Qingjing Farm.
The Nantou County Government and the Tourism Administration will co-organize the event at the farm in Ren'ai Township from 6:30 p.m. to 1 a.m., which is the New Year's Eve party held at the highest altitude in Taiwan and has in past years seen over 10,000 attendees, they said.
The event at Qingjing Farm features performances by singers, including 2009 Golden Melody best new artist award winner Hsiao Hung-jen (蕭閎仁) and several Indigenous musicians, the county government said.
The Qinjing Farm event will also have a market fair for charity sales, while promoting astrology and sustainability Tuesday night.
The two Sun Moon Lake events will begin at 8 p.m. at Shuishe Pier Plaza, and 9 p.m. for programs arranged at Ita Thao Pier Plaza, with both locations having their own fireworks displays lasting six minutes.
Singer Biung (王宏恩) of the Indigenous Bunun Tribe will perform in the 11 p.m. slot at Shuishe Pier Plaza before the fireworks, while a jazz band will take over for the final hour at Ita Thao Pier Plaza, according to Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Headquarters.
Changhua
The local government-organized New Year's Eve celebrations will take place at the rear of Changhua Railway Station from 7 p.m. Tuesday, featuring a line-up including veteran singer Yang Lie (楊烈) and the Musou Band, a group of Chinese instrument players who perform various music genres including jazz.
The Changhua event will also include a market fair of local produce and food, and a lucky draw for home appliances and consumer electronics, ranging from an iPhone, to a TV set and a refrigerator.
Yunlin
Yunlin is another county that will have three different events on New Year's Eve, one by the Xiluo Bridge, another at Douliu Pengshu Forest Park, and one at Janfusun Fancyworld theme park.
Both events in Xiluo and Douliu will also double as the start of Yunlin's lantern festival, making it the first such traditional event for the Lunar New Year, four weeks before the Year of the Snake begins on Jan. 29.
Meanwhile, Janfusun will hold a concert which will welcome in the new year with an 888-seconds fireworks display accompanied by a drone show.
Chiayi
Chiayi City will hold its New Year's event at the municipal gymnasium, featuring a pop concert from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. with performers including veteran singer Shen Wen-cheng (沈文程), rock band Fire EX. and DJ Swallow, according to the city government.
Tainan
Tainan's New Year's Eve event will take place at the city government's civic center on Yonghua Road in Anping District from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.
South Korean star Lee Jun-ho will headline the night's performance, which also features Golden Melody Award winner Shi Shi (孫盛希) and hip-hop group Nine One One.
A three-minute fireworks display is planned with the theme of the upcoming Year of the Snake, according to the city government.
Kaohsiung
Kaohsiung is another city that will host two countdown events, one at Dream Mall, featuring singers Lala Hsu (徐佳瑩), Crowd Lu (盧廣仲), and the rock band Accusefive.
The Dream Mall event will begin at 6:55 p.m. and conclude at 1 a.m.
E-Da Theme Park will host the other major New Year's Eve event in Kaohsiung, highlighting its 999-second fireworks display, the longest of the night in Taiwan.
Pingtung
Singer-songwriter WeiBird (韋禮安) will give an exclusive performance on New Year's Eve at the countdown event near the county stadium in Pingtung City.
Around 100 food vendors will open for business along Ren'ai Road from 3 p.m., while the performance will begin at 7 p.m., the county government said.
Yilan
Yilan Sports Park will host the county's New Year's Eve party this year, beginning at 5:30 p.m. and running until 12:30 a.m.
In addition to music performances headlined by the singing duo Power Station, a fair featuring 80 food vendors and a five-minute fireworks display is planned for the evening.
Hualien
Hualien County will hold a New Year's Eve event and another on New Year's Day evening, both at Dongdaemun Design Plaza, close to a major night market in the county.
The two-night event has been promoted to attract tourists, with singers Hsiao Huang-chi (蕭煌奇) and Show Lo (羅志祥) headlining on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, respectively.
The New Year's Eve event runs from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., while the New Year's Day event runs from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with fireworks displays planned for both nights.
Taitung
Taitung County Government will hold its New Year's Eve party at Haibin Park on the Pacific coast from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
The lineup for the night's performances includes rapper MC HotDog, 2023 Golden Melody best new artist award winner Hung Pei-yu (洪佩瑜), rap group MJ116, and jazz singer Joanna Wang (王若琳).
A four-minute fireworks display is planned to usher in 2025.
