Bangkok, Jan. 13 (CNA) One Taiwanese on suspicion of credit card fraud was arrested in Pattaya, Thailand and is being detained in a Pattaya prison, Thai police said Saturday.

He was arrested along with a Chinese suspect in a Pattaya hotel Friday after police discovered they were allegedly making fake credit cards before sending them to Laos where their accomplice used the cards for shopping and cash withdrawals, Pattaya police said.

The 27-year-old Taiwanese suspect surnamed Chen (陳) came from Pingtung, southern Taiwan, according to a source from Taiwan's representative office in Bangkok who is familiar with the case.

Chen was apprehended around 5 p.m. Friday and is now in a Pattaya prison, the source said, adding that judicial investigation into the case is underway.

The source also said that if the Taiwanese suspect filed a request, officials from the office in Bangkok will head to Pattaya to provide assistance based on humanitarian grounds.
