4.1-magnitude earthquake rocks Yunlin

Taipei, Dec. 9 (CNA) A magnitude 4.1 earthquake jolted the southern Taiwan county of Yunlin shortly after Saturday midnight, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

The quake, occurring at 0:07 a.m. Sunday, was centered 21.2 kilometers east southeast of Gukeng Township and hit at a depth of 14.6 km, the CWB said.

The earthquake's intensity, which gauges the actual effect of a temblor, was highest in Gukeng, where it measured 4 on Taiwan's 7-tier intensity scale.

An intensity of 3 was recorded in several central and southern areas, including Xinyi and Mingjian townships in Nantou County, Caoling in Gukeng, Douliu in Yunlin, Fanlu in Chiayi County, Chiayi City, and Changhua City.
