Taipei, April 22 (CNA) Work on expanding the width of the runway at Taipei Songshan Airport will begin June 20 and is expected to last for a full year, the airport's director, Hsu Nei-shin (徐乃新) said Sunday.

During the innovation period, the airport's curfew will be extended from 11:00 p.m.-6:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m., Hsu said.

An absolute majority of current flights, mostly domestic, will not be affected by the new work schedule, he said, adding that delayed international flights will be directed to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport just south of Taipei.

The airport is to widen the 2,605-meter runway from 45 meters to 60 meters and pave the enlarged runway at a cost of NT$900 million (US$30 million), according to the airport official.
