Northern Taiwan turns wet, cooler

Taipei, Jan. 22 (CNA) The weather in northern Taiwan became rainy and cooler Monday with the arrival of a cold front and stronger seasonal northeasterly winds, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said.

Daytime highs are forecast at 20-21 degrees Celsius in northern Taiwan, dropping to 15-16 degrees at night and in the early morning hours, the bureau said.

Bigger temperature fluctuations can be expected in central and southern Taiwan, with highs of 24-27 degrees during the day and lows of 15-18 degrees at night, according to the CWB.

In Hualien and Taitung in the east, temperatures are forecast at between 17 and 23 degrees, it added.

Meanwhile, brief showers are likely in parts of northern and northeastern Taiwan, particularly in Keelung and Yilan, the CWB said.

The rain is expected to spread to other areas of northern and northeastern Taiwan, starting Tuesday, as the moisture gradually increases, the bureau said.

Looking ahead, the CWB said the weather will remain cool for the rest of the week, with daytime and nighttime temperatures in northern Taiwan ranging from 19-22 degrees and 14-16 degrees, respectively, and those in central and southern Taiwan ranging from 24-27 degrees and 14-17 degrees, respectively.

Temperatures in Hualien and Taitung are forecast at 16-23 degrees, the bureau said.
