Taipei, Aug. 26 (CNA) A sea warning for Tropical Storm Kong-Rey, which formed east of the Philippines Monday, could be issued as early as the following afternoon in Taiwan, according to the Central Weather Bureau.
As of 2 p.m. Monday, Kong-Rey was centered some 800 km southeast of the southernmost tip of Taiwan, moving in a north-northwesterly direction at 17 kph, the bureau said.
Kong-Rey, the 15th storm of the 2013 Pacific typhoon season, was packing sustained winds of 64 kph, with gusts reaching 90 kph.
If the storm maintains its current speed and direction, a sea warning is likely to be issued between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning, the bureau said.
"From Wednesday to Friday, areas around Taiwan could see showers or thunderstorms under the influence of the storm and its peripheral circulation," bureau forecaster Lin Chih-hui said.
