Taipei, Sept. 21 (CNA) A mobile library set off for a tour of the central city of Taichung Friday, bringing books printed in Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian and English to the homes of new immigrants around the city.
The mobile library will allow new immigrants in the city greater convenience in taking advantage of books published in their homelands that are in the collection of a library for new immigrants in the city's Beitun District, Taichung Deputy Mayor Hsu Chung-hsiung said.
"They can enjoy reading without having to travel to the library," he said.
The new immigrant library vehicle is the first of its kind in Taiwan, as is the Beitun library, built specifically to serve the country's new immigrants, Hsu noted.
Taiwan's new immigrants are mostly from China and Southeast Asian countries such as Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines.
