Taipei, July 2 (CNA) Hot weather is expected around Taiwan this week, especially over the next two days because of strong Pacific high pressure systems, the Central Weather Bureau said Monday.
Temperatures may reach 36 degrees Celsius in northern Taiwan and 34 degrees in central and southern Taiwan July 2-3, the bureau said, cautioning the public to protect themselves from the sun's rays when engaging in outdoors activities.
Due to the high pressure systems, only mountainous areas are likely to receive afternoon thunder showers on those days, the bureau said.
However, the bureau warned people visiting riverside areas to be aware of rising river water levels following possible rain in the mountains.
From July 4-6, eastern Taiwan may see intermittent rain, while afternoon thunder showers may occur in level areas in northern, central and southern parts of the country, the bureau noted.
The weather is likely to remain sunny in the daytime in these areas, it added.
As for the approaching weekend, intermittent thunder showers can be expected in the afternoon in parts of northern, central, southern and northeastern Taiwan, the bureau said.
