Taipei, Feb. 3 (CNA) An English anthology of works by Taiwanese and Malaysian writers was launched in late January this year to introduce more literary works from the two countries to English-speaking readers.

The "Anthology of Short Stories Malaysia-Taiwan" features 12 short stories by six Taiwanese and six Malaysian writers, Sarah Hsiang (項人慧), secretary and assistant editor at the Taipei Chinese Center International P.E.N., said Tuesday.

The anthology was jointly published by the center and the Malaysian Institute of Translation and Books (Institut Terjemahan & Buku Malaysia), in collaboration with Taiwan's Ministry of Culture and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia.

It includes works by Taiwanese writers Huang Chun-ming (黃春明), Ping Lu (平路), Tsai Su-fen (蔡素芬), Lin Tai-man (林黛嫚), Wang Wen-hsing (王文興) and Yu-wen Cheng (宇文正).

The Malaysian writers whose stories are included are Jasni Matlani, Jong Chian Lai, Kathirina Susanna Tati, Malim Ghozali P.K., S.M. Zakir and Zurinah Hassan.

The Chinese and Malay versions of the anthology were published in April last year.

"The anthology is unique because it collects literature written in Malay," Hsiang said.

Taiwanese readers are more familiar with Malaysian literature written in Chinese, which is one of Malaysia's main languages, but not those written in Malay, she explained.
