Major chain stores to stock certified made-in-Taiwan products

Taipei, July 24 (CNA) Fourteen major chain stores nationwide haveagreed to take part in a campaign to promote certified made-in-Taiwan(MIT) products by stocking the products at their 10,000 storesstarting October, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) saidSaturday.

According to the MOEA's Industrial Development Bureau, so farapplications have been received for MIT certification of about 10,000products.

Although not all MIT items can be sold at those participatingchain stores, most businesses that produce MIT products are verypleased that the chain stores are willing to help promote theirproducts, the bureau said.

Chain stores such as 7-Eleven, Family Mart, Hi-Life, OK-Mart,Carrefour, Far Eastern Ai Mai, San Song department stores, and ASO shoe store, and Audrey lingerie store are among those thatwill join the campaign, the bureau said.

A ceremony will be held next Monday to mark the start of themarketing campaign. President Ma Ying-jeou and Economics MinisterShih Yen- shiang are expected to attend.

Far Eastern Ai Mai hyper market, one of the first to set up aspecial area in its stores in April for the sale of MIT products, hassince seen monthly average sales growth of 20 percent, according tolocal media reports.
