Taipei, Jan. 20 (CNA) Taiwanese tennis players Hsieh Su-wei (謝淑薇) and Chan Hao-ching (詹皓晴) were separately defeated in the Australian Open on Monday.
Hsieh and her Polish partner, Jan Zielinski, lost their second-round mixed doubles match 6-4, 6-4 to Jackson Withrow of the United States and Russia's Irina Khromacheva.
Hsieh, however, is still in the women's doubles draw and will partner Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko against Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk and Romania's Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
Hsieh is Taiwan's last representative in the women's doubles after Chan and Ukrainian partner Lyudmyla Kichenok lost their last-16 tie 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 to China's Zhang Shuai (張帥) and France's Kristina Mladenovic.
Last year, Hsieh became the first player in nearly 24 years to win both the women's doubles and mixed doubles at the Australian Open.
