Taiwan-Japan pair win women's doubles title at WTA Athens Open

Taipei, July 20 (CNA) Taiwan's Chan Hao-ching (詹皓晴) and Japanese partner Miyu Kato defeated Britain's Maia Lumsden and China's Tang Qianhui (湯千慧) to win the women's doubles title at the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Athens Open in Greece on Sunday.

Chan and Kato, who had advanced to the final without dropping a set, raced to a 3-0 lead in the opener, but were unable to maintain their advantage as the set went into a tiebreak. After a tough rally, the top seeds regained their composure to take the opening set 7-6 (7-3).

However, Lumsden and Tang quickly made a comeback to level the match with a 6-4 win in the second set.

Chan and Kato responded by taking a 4-1 lead in the deciding match tiebreak and, despite allowing their opponents to narrow the gap, held on for a 10-7 victory to seal the title.

The victory was Chan's first WTA doubles title since the Stuttgart Open in April 2024. It was also the 22nd WTA doubles title of her career.

The Greek tournament was held from July 13-19.
