Taipei, June 1 (CNA) Brief showers were forecast for northern and northeastern Taiwan on Monday, caused by the outer bands of Typhoon Jangmi, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
As of 8 a.m. on Monday, the eye of the storm was located about 590 kilometers east of Taipei, moving at 32 km per hour toward Okinawa, according to the CWA.
The CWA said the outer bands of the typhoon were expected to bring sporadic showers to northern and northeastern parts of Taiwan on Monday.
The rest of Taiwan will see cloudy weather on Monday, with brief localized afternoon thundershowers in mountainous areas, which will continue into early Tuesday, the CWA said.
The Greater Taipei area and the Keelung north coast will also see sporadic showers through early Tuesday, according to the CWA.
Meanwhile, according to independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮), daytime highs across Taiwan will rise to the mid-30s degrees Celsius on Wednesday and Thursday after Typhoon Jangmi moves away.
Mountainous areas of the country will see afternoon showers on Wednesday, due to a convective cloud system, he said.
By Thursday, the rain is likely to spread to low-lying areas of Taiwan, as the convective cloud system intensifies, Wu forecast.
He said Taiwan will gradually enter the peak period of the plum rain season between Friday and next Wednesday, as a weather front converges with seasonal southwesterly winds to bring heavier rainfall across the country.
