Taipei, Sept. 4 (CNA) Taipei prosecutors on Thursday sought a summary judgment against Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Chiu Yi-ying (邱議瑩), who admitted to slapping Kuomintang (KMT) lawmaker Lo Chih-chiang (羅智強) during a legislative session last year.
Prosecutors asked the Taipei District Court to rule without trial, citing Chiu's confession and saying her behavior set a poor example for an elected official.
Under Article 309 of the Criminal Code, she faces up to two months in detention or a NT$9,000 (US$293) fine.
In April, a summary court ordered Chiu to pay Lo NT$200,000 (US$6,517) in damages, finding her actions intentional and "the reaction of a disgruntled person."
Chiu wrote on Facebook Thursday that she lost control after Lo mocked the Regenerative Medicine Act by livestreaming the vote, and she offered her "deepest apology."
She added that her decade-long effort to pass the bill stemmed from her own cancer treatment and said she would "own" her mistakes if they brought more attention to medical advances.
