CORONAVIRUS/Taiwan reports 5 new imported COVID-19 cases
Taipei, May 7 (CNA) Taiwan on Friday confirmed five new cases of COVID-19 that originated in the Philippines, India and the United Kingdom but no new cases that were domestically transmitted, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
Three of the five new cases involved migrant workers from the Philippines. Two of them are men in their 30s, with one of them set to work as a crew member on a boat and the other as a fishing worker. The third is a Filipina in her 20s.
A total of 197 contacts of the three people have been identified and instructed to follow self-health management protocols, according to the CECC's press release.
The fourth and the fifth cases are Taiwanese nationals. One is a man in his 40s who went to India to work in February and returned on April 23. The other is a woman in her 20s who flew back to Taiwan on April 23 from the U.K.
No contacts of the two people have been identified, the CECC said.
To date, Taiwan has recorded 1,178 cases of COVID-19, 1,033 of which have been classified as imported. Of the total, 1,077 have recovered, 12 have died, and 89 are in the hospital, according to the latest CECC statistics.
Globally, COVID-19 has infected over 155 million people in 193 countries and regions, with more than 3.26 million fatalities, CECC figures show.
