Taitung's annual Lantern Festival celebrations kicked off Tuesday, marked by parades and the "bombing" of Master Han Dan -- a distinctive local tradition where participants hurl firecrackers at a person embodying the deity. Continuing Wednesday and Saturday, the festivities feature over 20 "bombing" ceremonies and parade teams from more than 70 temples.
