Taipei, Dec. 7 (CNA) A two-day workshop focusing on women's leadership and empowerment in the Indo-Pacific region is to be held in Taipei next week, the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) said Friday.

The "Achieving 50-50: Empowering Women Leaders in the Indo-Pacific Region" will take place Dec. 10-11 and will include presentations, wide-ranging discussions and essential measures to be taken to achieve increased participation and representation of women in both private and public organizations.

The workshop will bring together 15 participants from various countries who will share their experiences with women leaders in Taiwan, the AIT said.

Pat Schroeder, a former U.S. congresswoman who represented Colorado in the House of Representatives, will also attend the event to deliver a keynote speech on women's empowerment.

According to the de facto U.S. embassy in Taiwan, the workshop is being jointly organized by Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Taipei-based Foundation for Women's Rights Promotion and Development.

The workshop is an initiative under the U.S.-Taiwan Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF).

Since the establishment of the GCTF in 2015, the U.S. and Taiwan have brought together experts, government officials and civic leaders from over two dozen countries for 14 workshops on public health, women's empowerment, media literacy, law enforcement and the digital economy, among other topics, according to the AIT.
