Taipei, Sept. 9 (CNA) Greek violinist Simos Papanas arrived in Taiwan for the first time Sunday to hold a number of workshops on performing baroque string music.

The 33-year-old distinguished musician will teach participants several ways of performing, including the styles of Vivaldi and Bach, at the workshops to be held Sept. 10-21, said the Philharmonic Moment Musical, a local symphony orchestra that organized the events.

The Thessaloniki native, who has a master's degree in mathematics from Yale University in the U.S., will also share how to apply the baroque performance style to other types of music and will lead them in practice sessions.

Papanas was a child prodigy who completed his studies in violin and music composition at the New Conservatory in his hometown at the age of 16.

He has won several top awards both in music and mathematics, including the top prize in the American Bach Soloists' Baroque Violin Competition of the American Bach Soloists.

The violinist has played with numerous prestigious orchestras such as the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, the Munich Symphony Orchestra, and the SWR Baden-Baden and Freiburg Symphony Orchestra.
