Taiwanese youth arrive in Nicaragua on cultural exchange program

Taipei, July 13 (CNA) A seven-member delegation of Taiwaneseyouth is currently in Nicaragua to promote the soft power of Taiwanculture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said Tuesday.

The delegation from Tamkang University, headed by associateprofessor Tseng Mao-chuan of the Spanish Department, is composed ofsix students from the Graduate Institute of Latin American Studies.

The students will introduce Mandarin Chinese and aspects ofTaiwanese culture such as folk art, martial arts and traditionalcuisine to senior high and university students in Nicaragua.

A welcome ceremony for the delegation was held at Nicaragua'sMinistry of Foreign Affairs Monday and was attended by Republic ofChina Ambassador to Nicaragua Wu Chin-mu and senior Nicaraguanofficials.

Wu said at the ceremony that the youth program, which is part ofPresident Ma Ying-jeou's diplomatic policy, will help strengthencultural exchanges between the two countries.

The delegation is scheduled to return to Taiwan July 23.
